The Family Outsider

When we're all home together on Saturday, I sometimes feel like the outsider. My husband plays with the boys and Emily for nearly the entire day, while I do - guess what? CHORES. Seriously, I wish I had a quarter of the playtime my husband has! If I did take the time to really play with them, meals would be late and dishes not done. Nobody would have clean socks in their drawers, or the food they like in the pantry or fridge. And the floors would be a sticky, dirty mess. I don't know what the answer is. My husband hates anything domestic, except for cooking. Sure, he does help in small ways, sometimes, but lately I just feel like the maid, the shopper and the bill payer. And the one that makes sure the kids don't spend the entire day in their PJ's. And the one that makes sure they get a daily bath. You know, all the fun stuff. I get the really fun stuff!!

But, in all fairness, he is better at playing. I like to do puzzles, read books, color in coloring books, or bake with them. My husband loves all things car, train, or building related. He prefers what they prefer.

I am a worker by nature. My husband is a player by nature. Usually, I accept it. But today, I just feel like the maid. And not a very good one at that.

I'm reading, "The Playful Parent" right now, and he talks about being playful with your kids, even when it's not "play time". This is stuff like turning getting dressed into a game or respeonding to their games as you continue to clean. I was reading it thinking, "I want to be a more playful parent." Throughout the next couple of days, though, as I started paying attention I realized I was already being playful a lot of the time, I just didn't know it.

Oh, btw, if you want, I can teach you how to do more stuff with Blogger. Do you have my e-mail?

You're preaching to the choir, girl.

Hey, was the file too large that I sent on tics? I'm curious, because I sent it to four other people, and they might not be as open to tell me, "Girl, this is too large". Let me know. bye!

Pam, when you talk about making a link, do you want to do it on momformation, in your posts on your blog or in your blog's sidebar?

(can't write much right now, but I'll come back at naptime)

To turn your name into a link on Momformation: When you leave a comment, there are three blank spaces. Copy and paste the URL from your blog into the third blank area. Does that make sense?
