Stellan - Why Bother Praying?

There is a very good post about prayer on the "my charming kids" blog (April 22nd post, featured right). You may have seen the "Praying for Stellan" buttons on various blogs? I don't know how to insert a button, unfortunately. Anyway, this blog author is Stellan's mother. She shares some really wonderful thoughts on prayer - "Why Bother Praying?"

We believe that you cannot hand God a wishlist of wants in your prayers, but there are blessings he holds for us that we only need to ask for. Prayer also helps us draw closer to God and the Spirit, and in cases like this, I think prayer is as much about gaining understanding and comfort through difficult times. That's why we add, "Thy will be done," on the end of prayers, because he often has a better plan, and praying can help us to understand and accept that. When I look back at all the times in my life He answered "No" to something I thought I really wanted or I though was a righteous desire, I am grateful, because things always did turn out so much better than I could have planned. But of course that doesn't mean I shouldn't have prayed.

And He definitely wants us to pray for each other.
